Mc Miye abandons partner
by
MIKE VAN KAMANDE - Sunday, November 30, 2008 - 15:16:56
In a move that has surprised many ardent music followers in the country, Mc Miye Mdowa, of the Mc Miye and Hen Nlashi fame, the inseparable music duo and guys behind the 2002 hit album, Andisamale ndani has apparently abandoned his partner of eight years to go it alone in the music business.
Mc Miye,26, is seemingly busy in the studios putting final touches to his first ever solo album Malamulo slated for release anytime before Christmas festivities.
The ten track album being perfected at various studios that include J&D, Pro Sounds and Gomonda has all tracks composed and arranged by the artist himself.
The album basically talks about the ills that have come to characterize the society nowadays with the advent of the so called ‘freedoms.’ The album has tracks like I miss you ‘Anthu oyipa, ‘Umandilakwira’, ‘Muzindipempherera’ amongst others.
“In this album, most especially the title track, I am discussing the ills that have ravaged the society like the scanty dressing that has come to characterize our beautiful Malawian girl, rampart witchcraft practices in the hood, defilement of very young toddlers, gruesome murders for body parts amongst others.” He said.
He added that Malawi music is on the right path and artists sing about problems in the society because that is what there is to write home about in the country. Mc Miye observed that singing about the problems is like advising the society to stop perpetuating them and not necessarily condoning or deriding them.
On why he has decided to go it alone this time around abandoning his long time partner, Hen Nlashi, the young artist said that he felt like he is now mature in the music industry and could stand on his own musically.
“Honestly, being in the music industry since early 2000 as a duo, I feel going solo is the right thing to do since it shows maturity in my music career.”he said.
He disclosed that he intends to release Malaulo as an audio CD and tapes and is also working on a DVD.
“Mc Miye is a very good composer apart from having a very good voice, only that he has been let down by amateurish producers before. I know he will make it big in music as a solo artist.” said Deus Sandram, an assistant broadcaster with MIJ FM radio who host Nyimbo za ku Malawi program in which he critiques newly released Malawian music.
Mc Miye and Hen Nlashi were propelled to stardom when in 2002, the duo released a wonder of a chart-bursting album, Andisamale ndani which sold an enviable 50 000 copies. Then they released another album in 2004 (their last album) entitled Amaona that sold a not so impressive 20 000 copies.
“My fans should look forward to a very mature production of both CD and DVD and I thank God for being with me all this time in the face of very challenging hurdles.” said Mc Miye who hails from Balaka district.
